With an estimate of $80,000 to $120,000 seems cheap to me.

I know tentenths will obviously reply with his own personal valuation but thought you should all be made aware in case there are any serious buyers out there. :roll:

That looks like a nice straight car, has anyone ever shipped a car from the US, is it straightforward and what costs are involved :?:

There are companies that will handle the shipping no problem, haven't checked recently but last time I thought about buying a car from USA it was going to be around 2K to put it in a container, which you would with this, rather than on a ferry. Once it lands in the UK you have to pay HM goverment 10% duty on the value of the car and the shipping, then to this total you have to add VAT (so tax on the tax). At current rates thats going to add around 35% to the cost of the car.

There are some exeptions for old and historic vehicles but those won't apply to this. One thing some people do is to declare a lower value to reduce the tax bill but that would be difficult with something like this I think, it just doesn't look like a cheep car. The vehicle I was looking a buying was a Mk1 Escort RS1600 BDA which can be worth around even £30K or more for mint standard example. But unless your into those you wouldn't think they were worth that much, so could get away with a much reduced price. In fact that car had originally been sold in the EEC, all taxes paid, but because it had been outside the EEC for over two years it was again subject to all the above taxes.

The actual shipping costs would make it worthwile, but the import duties is daylight robbery :shock: understandable for a new car but not for a classic car, i know technically its not pre 72 but it's still a classic.

That was a good buy, is it staying in the USA, the import duties sounded like a real killer if its being exported.

Posso gave me a very warm welcome and explained some of the details about the cars, thanks Posso!

It was a long time ago that I got interested in these cars. George Stauffer had some pictures on his website and had claims about the acceleration of the car. I thought there was no way that this little car was as capable as it is and I wanted one. Little did I know how few were built and that wanting an EVO made it much more difficult.

Then about 10 years ago one came up in Vancouver, Canada with very few original miles (less than 1000). I can't remember all the details but the owner was very knowledgable and I think had the car since new (I wonder if he still has it). He wanted around $125K but my budget would not allow more than $100K, I left empty handed.

Fast forward to last weekend. I was going to Amelia for the weekend to display a car and knew that I would be at the auctions so I registered to bid on line just like Posso did. When I got to the auction and looked at the car I was pleasantly surprised, it was in wonderful condition. I asked if I could sit in the car (I'm 6'3" and usually don't fit in these cars), it fit like a glove (boy are the seats supportive), so I registered to bid on site and was successfull in getting the car. There was a lot of interest including Canepa who had been involved with the car before.

I have a collection of cars in Canada and am looking forward to people asking what is my fastest car is for the street (F40), now I can tell them a little 2.1 litre Ford.......very, very 8-)

I had always wondered why some of the cars has the extra ears on the roof, red knob by the shifter and the different wheels and this car had all three. I'm also not sure if Stauffer had more than one of these but it would be neat if this was the original car that I fell in love with.
